Galway City Harriers are delighted to announce that the 35th edition of the Streets of Galway 8k road race will take place Bank Holiday Sunday 24th October next, at 10.30 am.

GCH will once again host the famous Streets of Galway race in the City of The Tribes,  and like everything there are some changes !

For 2021 only, we move to a new date ,following recent guidance  that now enables us to hold this great event. We also have a new faster route!

Since its inception in 1986 the event has grown into one of the most prestigious road races in the country, yet remains true to its original motto of Sport for All, as many locals and visitors take on the event year in year out. The event will bring thousands of participants onto the streets of our city and suburbs into what is a fantastic event for the city.

This event is the jewel in the crown of road races in the West and tours through the famous City of the Tribes.The race route starts at Grattan Road beside South Park in the city and takes in many of the sights of Galway city. including the Spanish Arch, Eyre Square, the landmark Galway Cathedral and NUI Galway, and routes out towards Salthill, past Pearse Stadium and then back in the ‘Prom’ along Galway Bay for a fast section into the finish at the historic Claddagh.

The 2021 Galway Clinic Streets of Galway 8km , organised by local club Galway City Harriers, which takes place this year on Sunday 24th October at 10.30am

A standard entry-fee of €25 will apply plus processing fee and includes a superb race tee shirt, number and chip timing and an opportunity to race the Streets of Irelands friendliest city.

This year we are once again delighted to have the Galway Clinic as the Streets of Galway 8k race sponsor.  The Galway Clinic, is a Galway institution and is a major health provider and employer for the city and county, The Clinic aims to improve the health and quality of life of the individuals and communities its serves, and to promote health and wellbeing across society.

NOTE: When on the race route, please adhere to our on-site standard processes/procedures regarding infection control, i.e., social distancing, mask wearing, hand washing/hand sanitising and general coughing/sneezing etiquette

Athletics Ireland fully supports the Government approach and the HSE best practice advice that your COVID-19 vaccine will offer you protection from COVID-19. We strongly encourage all eligible individuals involved in athletics to avail of the Government vaccine programme, mask wearing when required, regular hand washing and appropriate social distancing whilst participating in our sport.

Pickup is at the Captains Deck area in Leisureland, Salthill

Race-pack collection times are as follows this year:

12 noon – 6pm on Saturday October 23rd
8am to 9.15 am on Sunday October 24th
There are no other options available so please do not message GCH looking for one.

Due to Public Health guidelines only a limited amount of people will be allowed into hall, please be ready to queue for short period and please follow relevant guidance for indoor settings.

Please note that the Claddagh Hall will be closed.

SATURDAY : You can park at Leisureland, or along the prom or at Baily point or Salthill Prom Car Park

SUNDAY : Please park for pick up at Salthill Prom/Baily Point or Salthill Prom Car park opposite ie not Leisureland as it has other events on.

  • Note the start is 2km+ away from Leisureland.
  • NO PARKING available at Claddagh Hall or Grattan Road, or at GTI Start or Finish areas- Do not attempt to Park here!
  • Due to Public Health guidelines only a limited amount of people will be allowed into hall, please be ready to queue for short period and please follow relevant guidance for indoor settings.
  • Parking for Pick Up – Please follow marshal’s instructions for parking when picking numbers.
