The  sun shone brightly last Saturday evening in Galway with over 3000 athletes taking part in the 32nd Galway Clinic Streets of Galway which was sold out once again.

What is now a major event in the Summer Calendar in Galway grows each year and offers athletes and fun runners a unique chance through run through the heart of Galway City.

Included in the sold out race was local runners, elite athletes and over 1000 visitors from Dublin, Cork and Limerick,

This year the male race was won by Kevin Maunsell from Clonmel in a time of  23.44 followed in 2nd place by Freddie Keron Sittuk from Raheny Shamrock and in 3rd by Hugh Armstrong from Ballina AC.

Siobhan O Doherty from Borrisokane AC  claimed the Ladies prize in a time of 27:44 followed by Caroline Crowley in 2nd and  Nicola Duncan from GCH in 3rd place.

Many of the top employers in the city had teams such as Boston, Medtronic, Avaya, Alere and the Galway Clinic. There was a carnival atmosphere at the start with Joanne Murphy MC the event and Galway Bay FM  broadcasting live at the start line.

The fine weather ensured the route was lined with tourists and family & friends of the runners shouting encouragement at every corner.

The 8km route showcases all the iconic attractions of  the city including the  Claddagh, Long Walk, Eyre Square, Galway Cathederal and the glorious Salt hill promenade.

The race attracts many runners each year and features 3 gents who have ran each year since its conception, Congrats to Patrick Larkin, Ger Murphy and Ger Meehan.

Thanks must be given to Garda, Civil Defence and the 300 marshals who ensured the safety of the runners.

Galway City Harriers the organisers of the ‘Streets are delighted to have started a  3 year partnership with the  Galway Clinic as the Streets of Galway 8k race sponsor. The Galway Clinic, is a Galway institution and is a major health provider and employer for the city and county, The Clinic aims to improve the health and quality of life of the individuals and communities it serves, and to promote health and wellbeing.
